Emirates ID Status Check In UAE

The Emirates ID is an important document for everyone living in the UAE, proving both your identity and residency. Whether you are applying for your Emirates ID for the first time, renewing it, or replacing a lost card, it is important to keep track of your application status. This helps you stay updated and take action when needed.

In this article, we explain how to check your Emirates ID status, renew or replace your ID, and what to do if you lose it. The experts at Now Consultant help you to check the status and keep you updated on necessary measures in order to protect you from fines and penalties.

What Is An Emirates ID & Its Purpose

An Emirates ID is an essential document that all UAE residents must have. It is a plastic card with an electronic chip that stores your personal information, such as your name, date of birth, nationality, and address. It is issued after your residency visa is approved and is linked to your biometric data, such as fingerprints and eye scans. The ID remains valid for the same period as your visa.

The Emirates ID has the following purposes, including:

  • Applying for government services like DEWA
  • Sponsoring dependents under your visa
  • Renting a home
  • Opening a bank account
  • Using immigration e-gates at UAE airports
  • Getting a SIM card and internet connection at your residence

How To Check Your Emirates ID Status With Your Passport Number?

To check your Emirates ID status, you need your Emirates ID number or your registration application number (PRAN), which is on your application form. You can also use your passport number for this purpose. Here are the steps to check your Emirates ID status:

Step 1:

Visit the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security (ICP) website at icp.gov.ae (available only in the UAE). On the homepage, there is an option to “Check Application Status” on the right-hand side. Click on it.

Step 2:

In the second step, enter your application number or Emirates ID (without the hyphen) in the provided field. Alternatively, you can use your passport number. If you have access, you can check the status via the mobile app from the ICP Smart Services portal.

Step 3:

Based on your entry, the status will show one of the following:

Pending: Your application is still being processed.

Approved: Your application is approved, and the ID is being prepared.

Issued: Your ID has been printed and is ready for collection.

Rejected: Your application was denied for some reason.

Additionally, you can view the Application History Log, which shows detailed updates on your application, like submission, verification, and card printing stages.

The website shows that your Emirates ID is still valid. If it is expired, it will display the expiration date. Following the above steps has made it easy and simple to check your Emirates ID status online.

How To Renew Your Emirates ID?

When your Emirates ID expires, the government gives you a 30-day grace period to renew it. If you can not renew within this time, a late fee of AED 20 per day will be charged, up to a maximum of AED 1,000. You will also receive an SMS reminder to renew your ID.

Register

To start the process of renewing or replacing your Emirates ID, you need to submit an application. You can do this through the following options:

  • Dubai Customer Happiness Centers
  • Typing Centers in Dubai
  • Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (FAIC) service centers or mobile applications

These options make it easier for you to renew your Emirates ID. When you visit a center, staff members will assist you in filling out the renewal form, which requires you to provide your personal details. This applies to UAE nationals, GCC nationals, and expatriate residents.

Pay Fees

Once you have completed the forms and submitted your documents, the next step is to pay the fees. The renewal cost for your Emirates ID varies based on its validity period and the center you choose for the process.

You need to pay the following fees:

ID Replacement Fees

  •  AED 300

Application Fees

  • AED 70 for applications made at typing centers
  • AED 40 for applications through the ICP website (eForm)

Express Service

  • AED 150 for faster processing at the ICA’s main Customer Happiness Center.
  • No need to update your biometric data since it was already collected during your first ID registration.

Issue Residency

The ID renewal process is linked to your visa renewal. You need to submit your application to the Free Zone that issued your visa or to the Immigration authority if your visa is under a mainland company.

Receive ID Card

Once your visa is renewed, your Emirates ID will be issued and sent to your nearest Emirates Post branch for collection.

How To Check The Validity of Your Existing Emirates ID or Resident Visa

If you do not check the validity of your existing Emirates ID, you need to check as soon as it assures the validity. If you have doubts about the exact expiry date of your Emirates ID or have been out of the country and want to check your UAE residence visa status, you can easily verify it online.

For that purpose, visit the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security (ICP) website at smartservices.icp.gov.ae to check the status of your Emirates ID.

How To Apply For an Emirates ID?

In the eye of the above purposes, the Emirates ID is a very important identity in the UAE, especially in the visa process. If a business setup consultancy such as Now Consultant is helping you with your visa, the fees usually cover the cost of the Emirates ID as well. The process of getting UAE residency involves several steps:

Entry Permit :

This permit is given to business owners who have set up a company in the UAE or employees hired by a UAE company. It is valid for 60 days and is required before applying for a residence visa.

During this time, you need to complete a medical exam and apply for your Emirates ID, after which your residence visa will be added to your passport.

Medical Examination:

After receiving your entry permit, you need to go for a medical check at a Preventive Medicine Center. If your results are satisfactory, you can move on to the visa application.

Emirates ID Application:

You can apply for your Emirates ID at any office of the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship, which are often found near Preventive Medicine Centers.

This process includes eye scanning and fingerprinting, which are stored in their system. You do not need to repeat these steps when you renew your Emirates ID.

Visa Approval:

Once your visa is approved, it is now issued digitally instead of being stamped into your passport. You can view it through the UAE ICP App. Most visas are valid for three years, though in some cases, such as for employees in Free Zones or on the Mainland, it may only be two years.

The validity of your Emirates ID is linked to the length of your visa. For GCC nationals, new residents, or anyone applying for a UAE residency visa, the Emirates ID is an important document.

How To Cancel Your Emirates ID?

In the following situations, you may cancel your Emirates ID. Common reasons for cancellation include:

  • Changing jobs or starting a business in Dubai and obtaining a new UAE residency visa
  • Permanently leaving the UAE
  • Changes in personal circumstances

The process to cancel your Emirates ID is simple. Your Emirates ID is connected to your residency visa, so when one is canceled, the other is too. To cancel them, simply give your ID card to your employer or the Immigration Authority when you hand in your passport for visa cancellation.

What Do You Do If You Lose Your Emirates ID?

Losing your Emirates ID can be stressful, but if you lost, here is the simple procedure to get a new Emirates ID:

  • Go to the nearest police station and report your lost Emirates ID. There is a fee of AED 70 for this service.
  • Inform the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security (ICP) about the lost ID within seven days.
  • Visit any ICA office to apply for a replacement Emirates ID. The fee is AED 300. If you apply in person, there will be an extra AED 70 fee; if you apply online, it is AED 40. This means your total cost will be either AED 370 or AED 340.
  • Once your new ID is recovered, collect it from the nearest Emirates post office.
